Where it all Started

Jan 29, 2024

I bought my first car at 22. It was a 2005 50th anniversary Ford Thunderbird, all black with a tan soft-top and interior. I loved that car. I wanted to make it mine and show it off. I took it to a car show, parked it in high visibility areas, and talked about it all the time. I wanted it to last forever. But black high gloss paint is hard to maintain. Every imperfection can be seen on black paint. One night I was driving home though a construction zone and hit a cone.  It scratched the front bumper of my beautiful car. The next day I spent hours trying to get the scratches out, but they were too deep. That's when I started looking for a way to fix it.

I looked into repainting the bumper, that was going to be a few hundred dollars, a few days without a car, and the risk that the paint wouldn't match. If the paint wasn't going to match, then why not paint the whole car and get whatever color I want. Custom paint is expensive and the whole car would have cost me thousands. Vinyl wrap could give me that same custom color and a fraction of the price right... wrong. The vinyl wrap I was looking at was $2500. As a college student struggling to make enough money for school and life, there was no way I could afford that option either. So, I looked for alternatives and found rubberized paint. I could paint my car and then peel it off when I want a new color, just like I would with a wrap. The cost, $900 to get a matte black paint job on my car. I still couldn't afford it but, it was better than $2500 for vinyl or $4000 for paint.

I started saving my money, any extra pennies I could find to paint my car. Life of course through a few things my way and ate up that money. I met my wife and got married and spent my savings on a ring and a wedding for her. After that I started saving again and got close. I wrecked that car on the highway. I hit black ice and spun it into the wall, tearing the front bumper off the car, and damaging the rear quarter panel and back bumper as well. The car was too expensive for me to fix so, I let it go. I never did get to paint that car, but the itch to customize a car never went away.

A few months later, my brother's friend was looking for a inexpensive way to protect his truck while he saved up to get it painted. He had purchased the truck as a project car and had fixed the engine, suspension, and body work but ran out of funding for the paint and interior. We met up and talked about liquid wraps and how they could be the answer to his problem. We agreed that it would be a good way to go.

I spent hours painting that truck and getting it just the way we wanted. I found a passion for helping others get what they want in the right way for them. My friend got the color and finish on his truck that he wanted; at a price he could afford.

Customizing your car shouldn't put you in debt or even a 'tight spot'. There are tons of options and alternatives for how to do it, you just need to know where to look. I created Wise Wraps for that reason. We want to help you find the best product and the best price for whatever you need, even if it is something we can't do.
